Episode 40: The Phantom Barber // Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dula

It’s the scapegoat episode! Patrice and Marleah drink absolutely *perfect* Manhattans and talk hair fetishes, mass hysteria, love quadrangles, murder ballads, and syphilis.

The Phantom Barber of Pascagoula //

In Pascagoula, MS, in the summer of 1942, two little girls woke up to find that an intruder had broken into their room and butchered their hair. Thus began the short and really weird series of break ins by the man soon dubbed the Phantom Barber. Police eventually arrested a German chemist … but he may have had nothing at all to do with the crimes. The Phantom BarberMississippi’s Phantom BarberSouthern Mysteries: The Phantom BarberFinding the Phantom Barber

Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dula //

The North Carolina soldier who inspired the Kingston Trio's famous murder ballad may not have actually done the murder that made him a (misspelled) legend. Patrice tells the real story.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKHZBZaYeksTom Dula (Wiki)Tom Dooley (Song)Blue MassFerguson, North Carolina: Graves of Tom "Dooley" Dula and Victim Laura Foster
