Episode 44: The New Orleans Casket Girls // The Giggling Granny

Patrice and Marleah drink Apple Cider Old Fashioneds and talk vampire rumors, torture convents, arsenic and True Romance.

The New Orleans Casket Girls //

Casquette girls - that was the local name for girls who were sent from France to Louisiana to marry and populate the new colony. Casquette just meant “traveling chest,” but a mistranslation combined with tuberculosis to create a new myth: pale, bloody vampire girls, kept by day in caskets in a New Orleans nunnery.

The Giggling Granny //

Nannie Doss, born Nancy Hazel in Blue Mountain, AL, laughed when she was interrogated after her arrest for murder in 1954. The Giggling Granny, or the Jolly Widow, would eventually be called one of the most prolific female serial killers in the U.S. She found several of her husbands/victims through lonely hearts columns in the newspaper. Nannie is likely to have killed 11 people, including her own mother and grandchild.Nannie Doss on MurderpediaThe Crimes of Nannie Doss, the Sweet Old Lady Who Poisoned Her FamilyThrowback Tulsa: Charming, Friendly Nannie Doss Poisoned Four Husbands
